ICT facilities

Facilities at Gorsemoor

At Gorsemoor ICT is embedded across the curriculum and is enhanced through the wide range of facilities we offer. Every classroom is equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard or a touch screen Smartboard. We have two computer suites; two mobile trolleys with iPads; 19 iPod touches  and a set of wirelessly connected laptops.  In addition to this every classroom has access to a minimum of one workstation and many have 2. All stations use Windows 10 and have shared and secure access to the internet and printing.

All classes a have an allocated timetabled slot for teaching computing skills but the rooms can be booked so that other subjects can be taught using ICT to support. We have an extensive range of software and hardware specific to the schemes of work taught in each year group. This includes beebots and probots for our Control work; easispeak microphones to develop speaking and listening and data Log IT’s  and all classes make use of a visualiser or iPad for close up demonstrations by the teacher. To support visual media work we use flip cameras and webcams for use in animation work. We use Skype with our partner schools here in the UK and abroad.

The school website is updated regularly with news and events and is a useful source of information to parents and governors. We are very proud of our plasma screen in the entrance hall. This is updated weekly by Mrs Fraser, our web manager and librarian. The children love to look at pictures of events in school and watch to see their names on display during the week if they have been awarded star of the week in class or if it is their birthday.

All teachers use electronic registration using SIMs, which is also an extensive assessment tool allowing teachers to track pupils’ attainment. All teaching staff and most TAs have their own school laptops for lesson preparation. We are an ambassador school for Discovery/Espresso and are an ICT registered school. We were in the first 150 schools to receive the national award of ICT Mark and we have been re-awarded this four times since 2002. We also subscribe to Education City to enhance and support the teaching of English, Maths and Science in particular. Pupils have free access to Espresso at home and Education City through the purchased homework package.

ICT Register Status.

Gorsemoor is affiliated to the Schools Specialist Trust as an ICT register school. This means that we can offer our services to other schools seeking to raise their level and standard of ICT taught.

Mrs Heath was an Advanced Skills Teacher in Primary ICT for five years, offering support to Staffordshire schools. She is now Assistant Head and E-Learning Manager at Gorsemoor but has retained the work of supporting Staffordshire schools. However, her services may be bought in at supply and travel costs if you are seeking specialist advice. She has been involved in ICT since the first computers came into school in 1979.
