In Nursery and Reception we plan our work using the ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)’ Curriculum. Mathematics is a ‘Specific’ area of learning, where children develop essential skills and knowledge. As the pupils progress towards the end of Reception we begin to use the National Numeracy Strategy as our main planning tool.
The children have access to Numeracy activities on a daily basis as they are integrated into most activities. Throughout the foundation stage ICT is closely linked with Numeracy and the children use a variety of interactive programs. Espresso is used regularly with the children and this enables them to be challenged at all aspects of the Numeracy curriculum. We also enjoy singing Number Fun songs together.
Key stage 1 and 2
All planning is closely linked to the Numeracy frameworks. At present we are using Abacus Evolve Mathematics as a means of guidance when planning and delivering our Numeracy lessons. All pupils have a daily lesson and children from Y1 to Y6 independently and regularly use the computer programme ‘RM Maths’.
Children are assessed in Numeracy each half term using a combination of written and mental maths assessments. We also use RM Snapshot alongside our own formal assessment.
Parent Maths booklets available here soon (or ask at the Office for a paper copy).
