Our Nursery classes form part of the Early Years Foundation Stage. We run two sessions during the day. Our morning Nursery class starts at 9.00 am until 12.00 noon. Our afternoon Nursery class starts at 12.30pm until 3.30 pm. Each class has 26 places.
Three adults work with the children during each session and we often have student helpers and volunteer mums to help us as well. We follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum which continues into Reception. Children work with the adults and also choose their own play activities. Activities are developed from the children’s interests and experiences. This enables us to carefully plan for the next steps in their learning and development.
Our adults spend quality time interacting with the children to promote creative and critical thinking skills and early language and communication.
Learning takes place both indoors and outdoors all year round. We have a fantastic outdoor area which the children have access to throughout every session.
We also operate a lunch club for Nursery children. This takes place from 12 to 12.30pm and is £2.50 per session (please check prices with school).
For an extra charge of £5.00, children can be collected from St. John’s Nursery at 11.45am. They have lunch then begin afternoon Nursery at 12.30pm.
Foundation Stage Leader
Early Years SENCo
(Covers for Mrs Horn)
When your child joins our Nursery, they will be appointed a ‘Key Person’. The role of the key person initially is to help your child to settle into their new setting. Each of the adults working in Nursery acts as a ‘key person’ for a small group of children. They are also a point of contact with you, the parents so that together we can support your child’s learning and development through their first year at school. Together with Mrs Horn, they may also help families engage with more specialist support if it is appropriate.
A key person:
Both Nursery classes are led by Mrs Horn who has overall responsibility and is your main point of contact. However, she is supported by our Nursery teaching assistants: Mrs Goodier, Mrs Hill and Miss Simpson. They work together closely to support your child and it is very much a team effort.
